cyclists behind you is limited, so point out significant hazards, and warn riders of people and animals ahead.<\/li><li>When approaching a junction or changing road position, always indicate where you are going, even if there is little traffic. This alerts other road users and fellow cyclists of your intentions.<\/li><li>Although each ride has a designated Ride Leader, we all have a duty of care to keep ourselves and each other safe.<\/li><li>Ensure your bike is in a safe and roadworthy condition and carry basic tools and spares.<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-50 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-e9fc76a\" data-id=\"e9fc76a\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d7e7325 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"d7e7325\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Be an ambassador ...<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6965d2a elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"6965d2a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul><li>Remember that you are representing not just Spokes but all cyclists, so don\u2019t give others any excuse to dislike or criticise us.<\/li><li>Be nice, say hello, thank people and set an example to other road users.<\/li><li>Always follow The Highway Code, e.g. don\u2019t ride where prohibited or cycle through red lights (unless it is clear they\u2019re not working or haven\u2019t detected you).<\/li><li>Don\u2019t pass walkers too closely or too quickly, and warn them that you are close to avoid startling them.<\/li><li><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Share with care.<\/span><\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-2d38098 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"2d38098\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-50 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-a128e87\" data-id=\"a128e87\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-71cf01f elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"71cf01f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Be aware ...<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4897c73 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"4897c73\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul><li>Stay alert to your surroundings, fellow riders, and others with whom we\u2019re sharing space.<\/li><li>Maintain a pace which avoids a big gap forming.<\/li><li>Look out for anyone struggling, drop back and see if you can help.<\/li><li>When turning off, make sure there is someone at the junction, so riders behind don\u2019t miss the turn, or wait there yourself.<\/li><li>When stopping to allow others to catch-up, pull in somewhere safe and don&#8217;t spread out all over the road.<\/li><li>At coffee stops don\u2019t block the pavement with bikes, even if it means parking the bikes further away and leaving someone to guard them. Always ask before leaning your bike against another bike.<\/li><li>Don\u2019t delay when leaving the caf\u00e9 stop. Ring your bell to warn others that you are there.<\/li><li>Be sensible in a group, ride two abreast if appropriate, but single out where necessary.<\/li><li>When cycling in a large group on busy roads, split into small groups of 3 or 4 cyclists so that vehicles can overtake more easily.<\/li><li>Where appropriate and safe to do so, allow drivers to pass you on narrow roads. Don\u2019t feel you always have to stop straight away to let a vehicle pass, especially if you are cycling uphill, but cycle on until you reach a wider section so that the vehicle can pass you safely.
